ABSTRACT:
Mass media influence our daily life more than any other cultural institution. They are our main sources of news and entertainment. They define our purchase decision, voting behaviour, academic achievement and so on. Because of this all-encompassing impact of mass media, politicians, businessmen and government agencies depend on media to influence people. The College students need news/information for various reasons, on one hand it can be used to socialize and on the other to make decisions and formulate opinions. The aim of the research was to find out the purpose of utilization of selected mass media among college students. The study conclude that most of the students use multimedia for different purposes such as entertainment programmes, making calls/ receiving call, social networking sites, news items, sports types news, beauty tips, recipes, fashion and educational news.
