ABSTRACT:
Cynanchum ellipticum is a medicinal plant belonging to the Apocynaceae family, widely recognized for its therapeutic potential. Various extraction methods such as Soxhlet extraction, maceration, ultrasound-assisted extraction, and pressurized liquid extraction have been used to isolate bioactive compounds from Cynanchum species. The efficiency of extraction depends on solvent type, temperature, and method, which directly influence the yield of phytoconstituents like flavonoids, alkaloids, and steroidal glycosides. These compounds are responsible for multiple pharmacological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, and hepatoprotective effects. Recent studies highlight that advanced techniques like ultrasound and pressurized liquid extraction provide higher yield and better preservation of active compounds compared to conventional methods. This review summarizes the extraction techniques and pharmacological properties of Cynanchum ellipticum, emphasizing its potential for future drug development.
